Here’s the straight truth: I suck at writing “About Me” pages. Just the thought gives me hives. I’m awkwardly cohabitating with ADHD and when it comes to having to summarize absolutely anything - Jesus take the wheel.
So, here’s a list of things you might want to know about me and what goes on here in this definitely not smooth, sometimes lumpy Substack I’m creating:
I’m a former high school English teacher navigating life with a good dose of sarcasm, a few health battles (hello, arthritis and fibromyalgia), and a head and heart full of great big ideas. After 8 years in the classroom, I left in 2017, exhausted from the bureaucracy and politics of education, but my love for storytelling and connecting with people has never faded.
Writing has always been my way of processing the world—a world that often feels overwhelming but is also full of possibility. My newsletter is where I share poetry and short essays about navigating this shit show we call life while trying to miss as many pointy edges as possible, and still somehow maintaining that glittering, child like optimism and sense of wonder and adventure.
I want to create a space where liberal thinkers, fellow neurodivergents, and childless cat (or dog) ladies like myself can come together. Here, we can talk about the thoughts and feelings that my writing stirs up—whether it’s a gut-punch of truth, a spark of hope, or a shared frustration. There’s no judgment here, just honest conversation and hopefully a community that is as delightfully eclectic as myself.
It’s my dream to make a living doing what I love—writing. Right now, it doesn’t pay the bills, but with the support of my amazing readers (that’s you!), I hope to change that. Every subscription to my Substack, every referral, and every coffee bought on Ko-fi makes a difference. You’re not just supporting my work, you’re helping build a space where we can all feel a little more seen, a little more empowered, and a lot more connected.
So, come as you are. Let’s create the world we want to live in, leave it a little better than we found it, and—most importantly—learn to love ourselves along the way.
